Bosworth & Lyell, San Francisco

Lyell Hill

We’re reclaiming Lyell Hill as a cleaner, safer, more beautiful path between Glen Park and Bernal Heights.

Help on Lyell Hill

Vision

Make the Lyell hillside beautiful and usable.

Lyell Hill is the steep stretch at Bosworth and Lyell, used by neighbors, students, commuters, and people walking between Glen Park and Bernal Heights. We’ve already cleared heavy brush, removed trash-catching overgrowth, and reclaimed about two feet of sidewalk.

Our vision is a cared-for hillside path with a small clearing people can enjoy, native plants that can handle the slope, and a mural that welcomes neighbors and commuters to Bernal Heights.

We’ll get there step by step: keep the sidewalk open, suppress weeds with mulch, create planting areas, and coordinate with Public Works and neighborhood partners on the larger improvements.

Before: dense fennel, ivy, and brush along the wall.

Now: we’ve covered the first 5 feet and are spreading mulch to more areas.

Upcoming cleanups

Upcoming ways to help.

We’re planning short weekday mulch sessions and joining larger neighborhood cleanup days when they happen. We have a few shovels and rakes; bring a useful garden tool if you have one. Closed-toe shoes, gloves, and a water bottle are recommended.
